As educators, it is our responsibility to hold dialogue space with students tomorrow. Here’s my own best thinking as I try to parent through this historic moment.
Begin with the open ended question: What are you curious about?
Ask, “What are some terms you heard yesterday that you need to further understand?
Consider the source, We need to model and teach how to be critical consumers of information, what are some ways to fact check what we see and read?
Offer these statements, as primary texts, by four prior American presidents, read them together, make sense of them, discuss:
And then simply, allow them to say what they need to say. Honor their voice, their questions, their concerns. We will probably learn from their perspective.
